Black History Month in Redbridge

October marks the start of another Black History month. Just last week however, criticism was directed towards Redbridge Council’s program of events and entertainment at a Local Forum event in Wanstead.

One of the countries most diverse Local Authorities, Redbridge’s population at the time of the last census was composed of 35% ethnically white British & Irish, 43.2% south Asian/Asian British (Indian, Pakistani, Bangladeshi), and 10.9% black/black British. However, the activities and events – provided mainly by the voluntary sector, often for free – are considered disappointing by community members, even embarrassing. They are also considered by some to poorly represent the Asian communities in Redbridge.
